AVILA FOREST IN BOTSWANA

The Africa Experience/Stichting Timbo

The Africa Experience/Timbo Foundation is developing an indigenous forest in Botswana. The newly planted trees will be planted in an area directly behind the remaining riparian forest, located along the Limpopo River in the Central Tuli region.

In the past, this vulnerable area was severely eroded by uncontrolled livestock farming and agriculture. Therefore, to safeguard the biodiversity of this region, it is crucial to prevent further erosion and protect the unique ecosystem. Rehabilitating the area with indigenous trees and grasses is an essential first step in this process.

The seeds are collected locally and grown by community members in the nursery. The goal is to grow at least 1,000 trees that will be planted in the Central Tuli wilderness area. The seeds are grown in donated egg cartons from surrounding lodges, ensuring that this part of the process is also carried out in a sustainable manner.

Fun fact: you can visit this project during a wonderful stay at the Koro River Camp!

Avila Reizen, through the Avila Foundation, is providing financial support for this project to plant 7 hectares of Avila forest. The donation comes from the contributions collected to cover the impact of international flights for Avila Reizen travelers.
